Mike Daly Featured Speaker at "Property vs. Preservation" - Two Shipwreck Case Studies

Pierce Atwood partner Michael J. Daly will participate in a panel discussing the various legal and ethical issues associated with historic shipwreck exploration, recovery, and preservation efforts.

Mike will be joined on the panel by F. Gregg Bemis, Jr., who purchased the Lusitania wreck more than 40 years ago, and Dr. John Broadwater, former director of the Monitor Project. The conversation will focus on two case studies – the Lusitania, and the wrecked transport fleet discovered in Newport Harbor, which is believed to include the Endeavour. The panel will address the ongoing “property rights vs. historic preservation” debate and related legal battles.

Moderating this program will be Dr. D.K. Abbass, executive director and principal investigator of RI Marine Archeology Program. The event will take place on April 12, 2018 from 5:30-7:30 PM in the Senate Chambers, Old State House, 150 Benefit Street in Providence (currently the offices of the RI Historical Preservation Commission).
