Building an Information Security Program: Peter Guffin and Kyle Glover Contributors to PRISM International's inFocus Magazine

As data breaches become more common, more expensive, and impact exponentially more individuals and organizations, the need to devise and implement an information security program has never been greater.

Privacy & Data Security attorneys Peter Guffin and Kyle Glover, speakers at the recent PRISM International Data Protection Conference, noted that in the first half of 2014, there was a 20.5% increase in data breaches compared to the same period in 2013, and a 46% increase in the total number of records exposed in the first quarter of 2014 compared with the same period in 2013.

Kyle Glover notes that regulators can “impose hefty fines and require long-term oversight over a company if it looks like the breach was due to inadequate security at the company.” With regard to creating and implementing an information security program, Peter Guffin stated, “it’s not rocket science, but it does require focus, intention, and resources to get the job done.”
