Vivek Rao specializes in technology and intellectual property transactions and licensing agreements, trademark prosecution and enforcement, and data privacy and security matters.  He has represented clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to family-owned New England businesses in their procurement of mission-critical technology and services, including in highly regulated industries such as banking, health care, and higher education, as well as technology companies focused on commercializing innovative software and data-driven services.  He also has expertise advising start-up companies looking to maximize and protect the value of their intellectual property portfolios.

Vivek emphasizes client-tailored, cost-efficient, and practical approaches to minimizing risk, informed by several years of prior litigation experience. Before joining Pierce Atwood, Vivek was an associate with Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, a litigation boutique in Washington, D.C. He previously completed clerkships with Judge Catherine C. Eagles of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina and Judge Michael Daly Hawkins of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Vivek received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall), where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, won the McBaine Moot Court Competition, and served as Senior Supervising Editor for the California Law Review and a member of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal.
