Jonathan Gelchinsky Joins Pierce Atwood's IP & Technology Group

Pierce Atwood LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Jonathan Gelchinsky has joined the firm as a partner in its Intellectual Property & Technology practice group. Jon will reside in the firm’s Portland, Maine and Boston, Massachusetts offices. He specializes in managing and advising on the global trademark portfolios of highly successful, leading businesses of all sizes. Jon’s trademark practice is diverse and ranges from counseling clients on the selection of new trademarks, clearance searching, U.S. and international prosecution, and licensing, to enforcement, oppositions, and litigation. He also assists clients with the protection, enforcement, and licensing of copyrights.

Over the past 14 years, Jon has represented a wide range of clients in a variety of industries, including consumer products, musical instruments, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, computer software and hardware, online media, telecommunications, publishing, education, motorcycles, and heavy machinery. He has handled trademark litigations and proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from filing to trial. He has particular experience handling internet-related trademark issues and domain name disputes, including dozens of complaints under the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and numerous federal lawsuits and foreign litigations involving domain names. Jon also advises clients on issues relating to keyword advertising and social media, and he has expertise in generic top-level domain (gTLD) issues including use of the Trademark Clearinghouse.

Prior to joining Pierce Atwood, Jon was a partner at the intellectual property firm Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, in Boston. Jon has appeared as a speaker on trademark issues before organizations such as the New England Corporate Counsel Association, the Boston Bar Association, and the American Bar Association; has been a guest lecturer on trade dress at Suffolk Law School in Boston; and has been a featured speaker at the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s annual Trademark Boot Camp, providing training to lawyers on trademark practice.

Jon earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from American University’s Washington College of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from Brandeis University. He is admitted to practice in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, the District of Columbia and before the U.S. District Courts in Massachusetts and the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

He is a member of the International Trademark Association, the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Boston Bar Association.
