USCIS Will Require Interviews for Employment-Based Adjustment of Status Applicants

USCIS has announced that – effective October 1, 2017 – it will begin to “phase in” an in-person interview requirement for applicants for adjustment of status based on employment, as well as for other categories of applicants who have previously been exempted from an in-person interview. USCIS indicates that the change is part of an effort to prevent fraud and complies with provisions of the “travel ban” Executive Order issued by President Trump on March 6, 2017. USCIS has not released specific information or guidance regarding the implementation of the “phase in” or the timing of in-person interviews for persons with new or pending employment-based applications for adjustment of status.
