Peter Guffin to Present at Maine State Bar Association's Summer Meeting

Pierce Atwood Partner Peter Guffin will be making a presentation on cloud computing at the 2012 Maine State Bar Association's Summer Meeting, which will be held on June 21-23, 2012 at the Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina in Bar Harbor.

Fair Weather Clouds: Legal and Ethical Considerations of Cloud Computing

Cloud computing represents a revolutionary shift in how businesses and law firms purchase and use information technology.  Cloud computing is effectively an out-sourcing model of IT hardware, software, and data, that relies on the internet and third party service providers to deliver all aspects of IT as a service.  This shift comes with new risks and undefined intersections between traditional legal constructs around liability, regulatory compliance, confidentiality and data protection.

This program will:

  • Describe cloud computing and its relevance to lawyers and their clients;
  • Highlight the risks associated with movement of IT to the cloud; and
  • Discuss key developments in the law, and ethical considerations that lawyers need to be aware of, arising from this new approach to IT

Panel:

Ande Smith, COO and General Counsel of Tilson Technology Management
