On Friday, June 10, 2011 our own Dan Wathen was sworn in to serve as a member of the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA). I am proud to say that Dan received unanimous approval from the Joint Standing Committee on Transportation following his confirmation hearing. The next day, the entire Senate unanimously supported the Committee's recommendation. Once he became a member, the Governor immediately appointed him to serve as chair of the 7-member Board that presides over the Authority. In his role as chair, Dan will work to complement MTA Executive Director Peter Mills' efforts to achieve the level of integrity that is needed to sustain the MTA moving forward.
This appointment is a tribute to Dan's reputation and skills and we are pleased to have a member of the Pierce Atwood family selected for this position. Although Dan will be busy in his new role, he will continue his work at the firm serving as an arbitrator, mediator, and neutral in complex cases from Maine to Puerto Rico.
Dan says of his selection, "I am grateful for the opportunity to chair the Board for the Maine Turnpike Authority and look forward to working with Peter Mills and the other Board Members to ensure that the Maine Turnpike Authority is serving the citizens of Maine to the very best of its ability."
We are delighted to congratulate Dan on his appointment.
