Pierce Atwood Strengthens its Litigation Practice: Stephen J. MacGillivray Joins Firm as Partner

Pierce Atwood continues its strategic growth by adding Stephen J. MacGillivray as partner in the Litigation Practice Group. Based in the firm’s Providence (RI) office, Steve adds to the legal talent there and throughout Pierce Atwood’s six offices along the East Coast. Prior to joining Pierce Atwood, Steve was a partner in the Litigation Practice Group at Edwards Wildman.

Steve has more than 20 years of experience representing Fortune 100 companies, high net worth individuals, and companies of all sizes in a wide range of commercial, contract, and product liability claims, as well as property development, construction, and employment matters.

For the past few years, Steve has represented national asbestos manufacturers in Rhode Island and throughout the country, and has secured numerous dismissals and favorable judgments on his clients’ behalf. He has also been actively involved in the litigation and resolution of a large class action involving insurance sales practices.

Steve connects his community involvement with his passion for the water and yacht racing. He was formerly on the Board of Directors and Chair of the Legal Committee for Save the Bay, an organization that focuses on protecting, restoring, and improving the “ecological health” of the Narrangasett Bay region.

He is also president of the Brown University Sailing Alumni Association and actively participates in fundraising for the Brown Sports Foundation. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the Aquidneck Island Land Trust, an organization dedicated to preserving Aquidneck Island’s open spaces and natural character.

Steve earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School and his B.A. from Brown University.
