Kathleen Hamann Maine State Bar Association Webinar Presenter: Complying with Corporate Transparency Act is Easier Than You Think

The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), which took effect January 1, 2024, requires many small companies, partnerships, and even foundations to report who owns and controls them to the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

Presented by Pierce Atwood litigation and corporate compliance partner Kathleen Hamann, this program is designed to assist in understanding:

  • Why the law was passed
  • The purpose of the filings and who has access to them
  • The federal enforcement agencies involved and their terminology
  • The primary exemptions to the CTA and how to cut through some of the regulatory language
  • What filing entails and some shortcuts to make it easier
  • Consideration of some of the privacy issues surrounding filing for others
