Client Fox Islands Wind, LLC Completes Innovative Wind Energy Project
Portland, Maine -- Fox Islands Wind, LLC and the island community of Vinalhaven, Maine celebrated the completion of a community wind project on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. The three wind turbine project (4.5 MW) is an innovative initiative supported by the island's consumer-owned electric cooperative, non-profit institutions, and private investors, who have cooperated to develop an indigenous source of power to secure a reliable and affordable source of electricity supply for the islanders. Pierce Atwood provided representation in all aspects of project development, including corporate governance and contracts, project finance, real estate, environmental and land use authorizations, and utility authorizations.
“Pierce Atwood congratulates our client, Fox Islands Wind, LLC, on this outstanding cooperative effort and example of how Maine communities can achieve energy independence. This project not only provides a secure and reliable source of affordable energy for Vinalhaven and Northhaven Islands. The project also provides a replicable, scalable model for other Maine Islands and communities to strengthen energy independence and secure affordable, clean electricity,” said Pierce Atwood Partner Elizabeth R. Butler.
