Pierce Atwood Hosts Attorney General Candidates
Portland, Maine --
Unlike most states, the Attorney General in Maine is elected by the majority party in the state legislature. With incumbent Steven Rowe reaching the end of his four-term limit, Maine will be getting a new AG later this year when the newly elected legislators meet at the State House to choose their leaders and the state's constitutional officers. Democrats are anticipating a continuation of their overall numerical advantage in the legislature, so three current lawmakers -- Rep. John Brautigam (D-Portland), Rep. Sean Faircloth (D-Bangor) and Rep. Janet Mills (D-Farmington) -- are actively campaigning to become Maine's next chief legal officer.
Pierce Atwood's Government and Public Affairs Group hosted a breakfast forum for clients with the three candidates on October 15. The event was moderated by Dan Wathen, Of Counsel, and former Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. The candidates talked about their legal and legislative experience and how they view the role of Attorney General.
The AG candidates' forum was the latest in an ongoing series of briefings for clients on legislative and political issues hosted by the Government and Public Affairs Group.
