Experience

Avery joined Pierce Atwood in 2009 as an associate primarily in the firm’s Government Relations Practice Group.  In this capacity, he represents Maine-based businesses involved in food processing, multinational pharmaceutical manufacturers as well as national and Maine-based trade associations.  During this last legislative session, Avery testified before various legislative Committees, drafted a number of legislative amendments and actively engaged members of legislature on behalf of clients.  Currently, Avery is involved with various stakeholder groups, as the Legislature is out of session.

Before starting law school, Avery spent four years working for Senator Susan Collins in Washington, DC.  He advised the Senator on issues relating to Maine’s traditional industries of fisheries, forestry and agriculture and issues regarding international trade.  Working in this position, Avery gained a perspective on both politics and policy as well as developing numerous relationships with businesses and industry associations throughout the state.
