2. What information do we collect?
The information we collect depends on how you use the Site.
Personal Information. We collect personal information (e.g., name, address, telephone number, e-mail address) that you knowingly provide when you use this Site.
Information Sent to Use by Your Browser. Most of the information we collect from you at the Site does not personally identify you to us, although it may be unique or consist of or contain information that you consider personal. For example, we collect information that is sent to us automatically by your Web browser. This information typically includes your IP address, the identity of your Internet Service Provider, the name and version of your operating system, the name and version of your browser, the date and time of your visit, and the pages you visit.
Generally, we do not link the information provided by your browser to information that identifies you by name. You should know, however, that when you access this Site by clicking on a link in an electronic communication you receive from us, your browser tells us that someone has clicked on a particular link in that particular electronic communication. We use this information to improve our marketing efforts. In addition, we review our server logs — which contain visitors’ IP addresses — for security and fraud prevention purposes. If criminal activity is suspected, we may share our server logs and the personal information we have collected through this Site with the appropriate investigative authorities who could use that information to trace and identify individuals.
Cookies and Similar Technologies. We use "cookies" and other Web technologies for a number of purposes, including:
- to collect information about the ways visitors use this Site — for example, which pages they visit, which links they use, and how long they stay on each page;
- to support the features and functionality of this Site — for example, to save you the trouble of re-entering information already in our database or to prompt the settings you established on previous visits to this Site;
- to create more targeted and relevant marketing communications and advertising messages; and
- to personalize your experience when you use this Site.
Generally, the information we collect using these Web technologies does not identify you personally. If, however, you have created a user identity, for example, by subscribing to one or more of our publications or client portals, we may link the information we collect using Web technologies to other information that identifies you personally.
Most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to be notified when you receive a new cookie, and how to disable existing cookies. Please note, however, that without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of all our site features.
3. How do we use the information we collect?
We use the information we collect through this Site for a variety of purposes, including: providing the information and services you request; personalizing your experience when you use this Site; personalizing our communications with you; contacting you with other information and/or services that we believe will be of interest to you (unless you have chosen not to receive these communications); contacting you with information and notices related to your use of this Site; making sure our mailing lists are accurate, current and do not contain multiple entries for the same individual; improving the content, functionality and usability of this Site; improving our marketing and promotional efforts; and for security and fraud-prevention purposes.
Employment Information. You may use this Site to search for job openings at Pierce Atwood and to submit a job application. When you use this Site to apply for a job, you will be asked to provide certain personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, email address, educational background and employment history. You may also send us your résumé and other information relating to your job search or application. We use this information only for recruiting and employment purposes; we do not use it for marketing purposes. If you are hired by Pierce Atwood, the information you provide during the recruiting process will become part of our employee records.
4. Do we share your information with third parties?
We may share your information with our trusted third party service providers to help us manage and operate the Site, such as performing statistical analysis, sending you e-mail, postal mail or text messages, providing customer support and performing other important services. Although these partners may not be affiliated with us, they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information and are not authorized to discuss, disclose or make any use of your personal information except as necessary to provide such services.
Periodically, we may contact you about seminars and other events sponsored by Pierce Atwood. Some of these events may be co-sponsored with other organizations. In these cases, we may share your personal information with a co-sponsor to deliver information about the event.
We and our third party service providers may disclose specific individual information if we or they reasonably believe that it is necessary to: (i) investigate any suspected misuse of the Site; (ii) comply with applicable federal, state or local laws, rules, regulations or orders; (iii) to protect or defend the rights, property and interests of Pierce Atwood, our clients, or the interests of our third party service providers; or (iv) under exigent circumstances, to protect the personal safety of users of the Site or the public.
Your information will be held by us for so long as is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, for the settlement of any potential disputes which may be raised or otherwise in accordance with legal requirements.
Your information may be transferred to another law firm that succeeds to all or part of Pierce Atwood’s business in connection with a sale, reorganization or merger.
5. How can you Unsubscribe or change your information?
We take care to provide a level of security appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we collect and maintain. Although we use measures to help protect your information against unauthorized access, use or disclosure, we cannot guarantee the security of information provided over the Internet or stored in our databases. Your transmissions are, therefore, at your own risk.
7. Links to Other Sites.
This Site may, from time to time, contain links to Web sites owned and operated by third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of such third party sites so that you understand how those web sites collect, use and share your information. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or other content on Web sites outside of the Site.
