Nate's practice focuses on achieving clients' commercial objectives. Whether they involve the structuring of a transaction to ensure regulatory compliance, the resolution of a dispute, or the purchase or sale of an asset or service, all commercial objectives benefit from a big-picture, practical approach based on a foundation of substantive knowledge. Nate brings this approach to bear daily, helping clients grow their businesses through strategic acquisition, enforcement, defense, and licensing of intellectual property rights. In addition to advising clients in the fields of trademark, copyright, and information technology, Nate also assists clients mitigate bourgeoning compliance and business risks involving data privacy and security.
Before joining the firm's Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group, Nate served as interim law clerk to Judge George Z. Singal and term law clerk to Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr., both of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine.
Recent Experience
- Advises clients on trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement issues
- Represents clients in adversarial opposition and cancellation proceedings in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board
- Negotiated trademark license and non-compete agreements, and resolved software license assignment issues in connection with sales of assets and ownership interests by two closely-held companies
- Negotiated software licenses and implementation services agreements on behalf of regulated utility in connection with purchase of geographic information system software for enterprise-wide deployment
- Analyzed and summarized software licenses and information technology vendor contracts in connection with publicly-held company's internal audit of IT assets accumulated over twenty years
Honors & Distinctions
Upon graduation from the University of Maine School of Law, Nate was awarded the Faculty Scholastic Achievement Award for the highest academic average over three years of study.
