Casella Landfill Expansion Permitting

Represented Casella Waste Systems, Inc. with three separate expansions of the Pine Tree Landfill by working with state and local regulators and elected government officials to obtain all required permits. This representation included successfully arguing in favor of state preemption of a local zoning ban on landfills, in Sawyer Environmental Recovery Facilities, Inc. v. Town of Hampden, 2000 ME 179. Pierce Atwood also assisted with real estate due diligence and transactional work for the landfill.
