On June 8, registrants joined Partners Peter Guffin and Matt Stein at the chapter’s meeting & discussion with leading experts regarding big data analytics, the laws and policies that govern it, and how this legal structure is likely to evolve in the future.

Businesses use big data analytics to become more productive, schools to provide personalized education, healthcare providers to tailor treatments, and law enforcement agencies to predict crime, to name but a few of its many uses. But along with these benefits come risks. Big data analytics can invade privacy, perpetuate bias and undermine transparency and fairness.

Speakers:

  • Lanelle Duke, Manager, Analytics, WEX
  • Dennis Hirsch, Professor of Law and Director, Program on Data and Governance, Ohio State University Moritz College of Law
  • David Newman, Executive Director, Washington, D.C., Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI)

Moderator:

  • Matt Stein, Partner, Pierce Atwood LLP

Light refreshments were served before and after the presentation.
