Allan's labor and employment practice generally focuses on advice and counsel to employers, labor union negotiations, workers' compensation defense, and administrative proceedings before the Maine Bureau of Insurance. Since coming to Pierce Atwood in 1993, Allan has maintained an active workers' compensation defense practice, while adding workers' compensation expertise to projects involving employment, insurance, loss control, and OSHA. He also represents Maine's largest workers' compensation insurer before the Maine Bureau of Insurance and a number of large Maine employers on matters relating to workers' compensation. He represents employers in discrimination matters before the Maine Human Rights Commission and also in labor contract negotiations with hospital labor unions.
Allan has covered many miles since graduating from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1982. He began his career with the Portland, Oregon law firm of Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt in 1982, where he specialized in workers' compensation law and appellate practice. He moved to Maine in 1988 and spent five years representing employers and insurers in workers' compensation claims. In his free time, Allan enjoys playing the bagpipes with the Dunlap Highland Band, running and racing while still able, and travel with his wife and children.
