Mandatory E-Verify bill introduced in Congress

Tuesday, June 14, 2011
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) introduced the Legal Workforce Act (H.R. 2164), a bill that would make E-Verify use mandatory for all employers under federal law. This bill would include a gradual phase-in period for mandatory E-Verify participation and would replace the current paper-based I-9 system with a completely electronic work eligibility check.
